SAJobMarket treats personal information with care. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it in practical terms for users of our South African job platform.

Information we collect

Contact details you submit, including email, phone number, support messages, and application details sent through our inbox.
Employer-submitted listing details and business contact information provided during job posting.
Technical data such as browser type, basic device information, IP address, referring pages, and usage logs.
Cookie data collected by our analytics and advertising partners (see our Cookie Policy).

How we use personal information

To operate and improve SAJobMarket services, including the vacancy index, search, and application routing.
To provide support and respond to legal, security, or moderation incidents.
To moderate listings, route job applications, and reduce fraud, abuse, or unlawful content.
To measure website traffic, advertising performance, and content effectiveness.
To communicate with subscribers who have opted in to job alerts or editorial updates.

Legal basis for processing

We process personal information on the following legal bases under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA): consent (where you have opted in), contract (to provide services you requested), legitimate interest (to operate the platform safely and fairly), and legal obligation (where required by law).

Sharing and disclosures

We do not sell personal information. Application messages sent through SAJobMarket may be reviewed internally and forwarded to the relevant employer or hiring contact that the listing references. Data may also be shared with service providers (for example email hosting, analytics, and advertising partners), or legal authorities when required by law, court order, or to protect platform integrity.

Third-party advertising partners, including Google AdSense, may use cookies and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's ad settings.

Your rights

You may request access, correction, deletion, or objection to processing where applicable under POPIA. Submit requests to support@sajobmarket.co.za with sufficient identity information so we can verify your request.

Right to access: ask what personal information we hold about you.
Right to correction: ask us to fix inaccurate information.
Right to deletion: ask us to remove your information where we have no continuing lawful basis to keep it.
Right to object: object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
Right to complain: contact the South African Information Regulator if you believe your rights have been violated.

Retention and security

We keep data only as long as needed for operational, legal, and security purposes and apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. Support emails, listing records, and moderation notes are typically retained for up to two years unless a longer retention period is required by law. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the retention schedules of our service providers.

Children's privacy

SAJobMarket is intended for adults seeking employment or posting vacancies. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact support and we will remove it.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards required by POPIA, including contractual commitments with those providers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, communicated through the site.
